ReSkate Dedicated Server: Setup for Windows and Linux

A ReSkate dedicated server is a headless multiplayer lobby that runs without the game or Steam, so your community always has a room to join. Here is how to get one running.

Windows server

Download ReSkateServer-<version>.zip from the latest release, extract it and run ReSkateServer.exe. The first run creates ReSkateServer.json; set your server name and admins there, then restart.

Linux server

Each release also contains ReSkateServer-Linux-<version>.zip, a native x86_64 binary with no Wine and no game install.

unzip ReSkateServer-Linux-<version>.zip -d reskate-server && cd reskate-server
./setup-linux-server-libs.sh
./ReSkateServer # writes ReSkateServer.json on first run; edit name/admins, restart

Details on the Steam .so files, world-layers.json, systemd and ports are in Server/README-linux.md in the GitHub repository.

Running a healthy community server

  • Name the server clearly and list at least one admin in ReSkateServer.json.
  • Use admin commands and votes to manage rooms; a server admin can run park random to re-roll parks for everyone.
  • Keep the server on the same ReSkate version your players use.
  • Run it under systemd on Linux so it restarts automatically.

Players join from the in-game server browser; see ReSkate multiplayer for what they can do once inside.
